What is an Engine Core?

An engine "core" is your old, worn-out, or failed engine that you return to us after receiving your remanufactured replacement. This core becomes the foundation for our next remanufactured engine, allowing us to continue our sustainable manufacturing process.

The core charge (also called a core deposit) is a refundable amount added to your engine purchase price. This deposit ensures we receive your old engine back. When you return your core in acceptable, rebuildable condition, we refund this deposit in full.

Note: Many of our engines require no upfront core charge. Contact us for specific core requirements for your engine model.

Core Return Process

Follow these five simple steps to return your core and receive your deposit refund

STEP 01

Contact Us

Call our team at 631-991-7700 or email to initiate your core return. We'll provide you with a Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) number and shipping instructions.

STEP 02

Prepare Your Core

Drain all fluids from the engine. Clean the exterior and ensure all components are intact. Document any damage with photos before shipping.

STEP 03

Package Securely

Use the original shipping crate or a sturdy pallet. Secure the engine to prevent movement during transit. Include your RMA number on the outside of the package.

STEP 04

Ship Your Core

Ship the core using a freight carrier. We recommend using the same carrier that delivered your remanufactured engine. Keep your tracking number for reference.

STEP 05

Inspection & Credit

Once received, our team will inspect the core within 5-7 business days. Upon approval, your core credit will be processed to your original payment method.

Core Condition Requirements

To qualify for a full core credit, your engine must meet certain rebuildable condition standards

Acceptable Core Conditions

  • Complete long block with all major components intact
  • Block free of cracks, holes, or severe damage
  • Crankshaft present and not broken
  • Cylinder head(s) attached (can be damaged)
  • Camshaft present
  • Oil pan and valve covers present
  • No fire or flood damage
  • No excessive rust or corrosion preventing rebuild

Unacceptable Core Conditions

  • Cracked or broken engine block
  • Missing crankshaft or major internal components
  • Hydro-locked engine with bent connecting rods
  • Fire-damaged or melted components
  • Severely corroded or rusted beyond repair
  • Block with holes from thrown rods
  • Engines cut apart or disassembled
  • Cores with attached torque converters or transmissions

Partial Credit Available

Cores with minor damage or missing non-essential components may still qualify for partial credit. Our team will evaluate each core individually and provide a fair assessment. Contact us before shipping if you're unsure about your core's condition.

Preparing Your Core for Return

Proper preparation ensures safe shipping and faster processing of your core credit

1Drain All Fluids

Remove all oil, coolant, and other fluids from the engine. Shipping companies may refuse engines with fluids, and leaks can cause damage during transit.

2Document Condition

Take photos of your core before shipping. This protects you if any damage occurs during transit and helps expedite the inspection process.

3Secure Packaging

Use the original shipping crate if available, or secure the engine to a sturdy pallet. Ensure the engine cannot shift during transport. Wrap exposed openings to prevent debris entry.

4Label Clearly

Write your RMA number clearly on the outside of the package. Include a copy of your invoice or order number inside the crate for easy identification.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about our core return policy

Q:What is a core charge?

A: A core charge is a refundable deposit added to your engine purchase. It ensures we receive your old engine (the 'core') back so it can be remanufactured. When you return your core in acceptable condition, this charge is refunded to you.

Q:How long do I have to return my core?

A: You have 30 days from the date your new engine is delivered to return your core. Extensions may be available upon request - please contact us if you need additional time.

Q:What if my core is damaged?

A: Cores with minor damage may still qualify for partial credit. Our team will assess the condition and provide a fair evaluation. Severely damaged cores that cannot be rebuilt may not qualify for any credit.

Q:Who pays for core return shipping?

A: The customer is responsible for return shipping costs. We recommend using a freight carrier and properly securing the engine on a pallet to prevent damage during transit.

Q:How long until I receive my core credit?

A: Once we receive and inspect your core (typically 5-7 business days after arrival), credits are processed within 3-5 business days to your original payment method.

Q:Can I return a core from a different engine?

A: No, the core must be the same engine model and type as the remanufactured engine you purchased. For example, if you bought a Cummins ISX, you must return a Cummins ISX core.
